Why do some things stay with us, while others fade and end up getting replaced?

An object you reach for without thinking. One that's part of your life and gives something back.

Most things never get there. They arrive, they leave, and you don't notice either.

Quietly we've been trained out of attachment.
Overlit. Overstaged. You hold it and there's nothing there.

I put on a record. Slide it from the sleeve. Place it on the turntable. Brush the dust. Feel the tiny resistance when the needle catches the groove.
I could press play on my phone.

I make every bag myself. No outsourcing. First idea to last stitch.

I'm driven by the desire to be a better designer and craftsman. That's what I'm putting in the bag. Whether it gets there is for you to judge.

Geist is time spent making.

    KONTAKT

      MARTL SACOCHE

The MARTL* is my most experimental bag. Almost flat when you wear it, and it opens like a fan.

I made it because there is still no elegant and quiet way to carry your daily minimum. I have a big phone I don't like carrying in my trouser pocket. My wallet has shrunk over the years, but my ID, driver's license and the card for my burger place still have to go somewhere. Keys are bulky. And I don't leave the house without earphones.

The MARTL opens almost ceremonial. The front folds outwards and there’s no lid to deal with. To close it you pull a cord that runs inside the bag, magnets do the rest.

There is room for a phone, a slim wallet, keys, and something like AirPods. That’s it, and it’s on purpose.

If you are unsure whether this is enough room for you, go for the JIRO.

(*After Markl, the wizard's apprentice in Miyazaki's film Howl's Moving Castle. He minds the shop whilst in disguise, runs errands, keeps the books. The small one, doing serious work with complete seriousness. The t got in there by accident, and I like it better that way.)
